My Visit with the Fargo Library Kids' Book Club: On April 12, I met with several young readers, all of whom had read Storm Warning. All were quick to say that they were avid readers, and most also are writing stories. They asked great questions, like "how do you choose the characters?" and "what should I do if I want to be a writer?' The librarians in charge, Cindy and Sarah served snacks that were mentioned in the book: cheese crackers and chocolate chip cookies. They offered a sip of coffee, another reference to the book. Several kids gave it a try, but not a one seemed to like it. In fact, most of them were disgusted. "Yuck"! was a familiar comment.

Need a book on writing for a teen? My favorite writing book is Stephen King's On Writing. It's certainly appropriate for teens who are interested in writing. It's full of great advice like this: "If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There's no way around these two things that I'm aware of, no shortcut." Great advice for us all!
A Fun Website for Kids
How common is your name? Check out the Social Security Name Index. The top of the screen shows popular baby names in 2020, but if you go to the bottom of the page, you can find the most popular names by year, decade, and state. If your name is not listed, then you know it is unique.
