Aug. 8, 2022: Writing About Writing
August 8, 2022
This week I was writing about writing, and that essay is posted on Writers Digest's website. Check it out here.
I've also updated my school visist information. School visits are always fun for me, and I believe they benefit students by exciting them about reading, writing, and research. If you know of any school interested in a visit, please share this with teacher friends or the school's principal or librarian (they are often the ones who arrange author visits).
Middle-grade book recommendation: Salt: A Story of Friendship in a Time of War by Helen Frost (Square Fish, 2013). It's unusual to find a novel that takes place during the War of 1812, and the friendship is between two twelve-year-old boys: one a white settler, the other a member of the Miami tribe. The novel is written as a prose poem. Although the boys come from vastly different backgrounds, they maintain a friendship under the most trying circumstances.
A Learning Puzzle for Younger Students: This online puzzle is a fun way to begin learning where in the U.S. each state is located. Cick here for access.
